We’re so cheesy

Who can say no to pepperjack cheese sticks? Why would you want to! Hand cut off the block, beer battered, rolled in panko & deep fried to perfection. We here these commonly referred to as cheese logs among our biggest cheese stick lovers. For good reason too.img_3281A full order is over 3/4 of a pound cheese. Cut right off the block. Look at those jalapenos just waiting to be paired up with some sweet chili sauce for a combination that sounds like it shouldn’t work, but definitely does.

A quick dip in the beer batter. A good coating of panko Japanese bread crumbs.

Into the deep fryer they go until the inside is nice and melted and the outside is golden brown. These usually cook for about five minutes, but they will start to float when they are just about done. We keep a close eye on them. If the coating isn’t just right the cheese will slide out and we have to start over. If we cook them too long they will burst open  and the melted cheese flows out of the numerous holes leaving just an empty shell. It really is not as hard as it sounds once you get the technique down.

This is a half an order. Full order is 6 and you should probably bring a friend to share with.

You have to try these.

Come on in and grab some cheesy goodness with a friend. You will not be sorry!

Smile and say CHEESE 🙂

Try a better burger at Back Alley Bar & Grill

Hand made big daddy burger with fries

Let me take you through this whole process from the beginning so you can understand why this is not your average burger. Pictured above is our Big Daddy Burger. It has Swiss,  Tillamook Cheddar, ham, bacon, fried egg, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, & onion. Served on a Portland French Bakery pub bun with pickle chips on the side.

  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Onion powder
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Eggs

Mix together well and let that marinate together for a few hours. You can use immediately, but the flavor just gets better with a little extra time. Once marinated we form our patties by hand to 1/3 lb. Yes, by hand. It takes a little longer but we can get them the exact shape and thickness we want to make a perfectly consistent burger time after time. Burger Patties cookingNext we toast the bun, which is the perfect thickness. We don’t want you to get soggy before you finish the burger or too full on bread without finishing the meat and the goodies you put on it. Portland French Bakery pub bunWe add mayonnaise, leaf lettuce,

sliced tomatoes, sliced onions, with the pickle chips served on  leaf lettucethe side. sliced red onionsliced tomatoesChoose your favorite from our menu.

  • Bacon Cheese Burger
  • Hawaiian Burger
  • Bleu Burger

Or create one of your own. We’ve seen people come up with some crazy combinations.

Open for Lunch

lets-do-lunch

We are really excited to announce we will be opening for lunch starting December 12, 2016. This is a whole new side of the bar business we have never ventured into & are really looking forward to providing these extra hours for our regular customers & new ones alike. We updated the menu to accommodate those on a time crunch for work, but the whole menu will also be available. A few items we have added are soups, deli sandwiches, & some delicious breads from Portland French Bakery.

The full menu hours will be Monday-Friday 11am-12am, Saturday 12pm-12am, & Sunday 2pm-10pm. We have also added Happy Hour times Monday-Thursday 2pm-6pm & 9pm-11pm & Friday-Sunday 2pm-9pm.back-alley-bar-grill-food

I have to admit it is a little scary. I’m hoping I have enough time & energy to pull this off successfully, the way I have it pictured in my head. Enough about me, lets get back to the exciting part about OPENING FOR LUNCH.

Never fear, we did keep all the items that are great sellers and unique to us. For example, the Pepperjack cheese sticks which are more like logs than sticks. The Mac & Cheese which is smooth & creamy by itself, but if you add our homemade bacon bits, it’s to die for. Let’s not forget the burgers that we make from scratch, & I’m not just talking about molding the patty, which we do. I’m talking about the ingredients we add to it that make it taste like no other 1/3 lb patty that you’ve just got to try for yourself.

For those of you who have made it down this far, I will give you a sneak peek at the menu before anyone else has seen it. We hope to see you, Lets Do Lunch!
